Schneider Hospital Scandal
The VI Daily News revealed the contents of a recent audit by the Inspector General on Monday, detailing “flagrant abuse” of VI funds at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital. The audit also contained evidence of mismanagement and lack of oversight at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital. Most alarming was the seemingly excessive compensation package for the former CEO - Rodney Miller. It appears that Mr. Miller in addition to a pay package that placed him in the 90th percentile of healthcare executives, pocketed $1.3M more than his pay package outline (I wish stuff like that happened to me!). Adding insult to injury, the Daily News discovered that Mr. Miller also has a criminal record - something that he did not divulge in his employemnt application (I wonder if he would have gotten hired)?
Several other news outlets also reported on the scandal. The Miami Herald reports that Mr. Miller abruptly resigned from his current job in Florida. The current Schneider CEO disputes the findings of the audit. The audit also discovered questionable payments were made to the current CEO.
Stay tuned. The St. Croix Source reports that at the request of Governor DeJongh several Board members have resigned. Governor DeJongh plans to hold a press conference today to address this issue.
