Message from the Government of the USVI

Dear Friends and Fellow Virgin Islanders,

In response to the devastating earthquake and urgent humanitarian need in Haiti, the deJongh Administration has established a charitable fund and web site to facilitate the many requests from Virgin Islanders to donate to the Haiti relief efforts.

“Many Virgin Islanders have loved ones in Haiti, know someone that has lost a friend or family member or have been touched by this tragedy in some way,” states Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. “The administration has launched a safe and easy way for Virgin Islanders to make a contribution that will help Haiti.”

Monetary donations are needed most at this time, and Governor John P. deJongh, Jr., Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis and Senate President Louis Patrick Hill are calling on Virgin Islanders to help reach the goal of raising $500,000.

A Web site- www.USVIcares.org – has been established to collect online donations through PayPal. All funds are being administered by the St. Croix Foundation, and the Web site also lists a mailing address for checks.

The funds will ultimately be donated to approved charities that are aiding in Haiti relief efforts, which may include the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities and many others. Virgin Islanders can help spread awareness for the initiative by following the U.S. Virgin Islands on Twitter, @USVIMockoJumbie, or by adding the United States Virgin Islands as a fan on Facebook.

Sincerely,

Governor John P. deJongh, Jr., Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis and Senate President Louis Patrick Hill
